The group deals with elementary quantum systems, larger networks constructed of such systems, and their applications in quantum information processing as well as the description of their specific physical realisation. One of the models we extensively study is the quantum walk, which — beside the possibility of implementing quantum search algorithms — is a suitable framework to describe fundamental physical phenomena, such as topologically protected phases in condensed matter. Our research topics include the study of vibrational properties of simple molecules, quantum state engineering of light, and quantum measurement theory. We participate in experiments to produce non-classical states of light.
